What is Child Dedication?

Child Dedication is a commitment on behalf of the parents to lead and raise their children to know the love of Jesus Christ. It is a public declaration of the commitment to raise your children according to God’s plan; to do everything possible to create a healthy environment at home and within the Christian community for your child to grow up knowing and loving God; to personally demonstrate God’s love.

The dedication of children is a practice that has its origin in the Holy Scriptures. It is an expression of love for God and is a declaration on the part of the parent(s) to be a godly influence in the life of the child. (Genesis 22:12; 1 Samuel 1:27-28; Matthew 19:13-15)

Dedication is an act of worship on the part of the parents and does not secure salvation of the child. The dedication marks the beginning of the child’s spiritual journey.

In presenting your child for Christian dedication at Leduc Alliance Church, you are declaring your intention to raise your child in the knowledge and understanding of God’s Word and expressing your purpose to lead him/her in the way of Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is important for us to know that you, as the parent(s), understand the vows you will be taking, that you are committed to these vows, and that your life shows evidence of their reality prior to taking them.

Our duty before God is to allow you to take vows that you are sincerely prepared to keep, to the best of your ability with God’s help, after the dedication ritual is passed.

In presenting your child to the Lord, you are…

  • Publicly affirming your personal faith and trust in Jesus Christ
  • Committing yourself to pray daily for the physical, mental, social, and spiritual welfare of your child
  • Setting an example of honouring the Lord’s Day by bringing your family to Worship Celebrations and Children's ministries
  • Modeling before your children your love for God and His Word in your home: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them in your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)
  • Looking for that teachable moment when you may present Christ to your child and have the joy of leading him/her into a personal relationship with Him
